Let's celebrate this week by celebrating the fact that I am OVER THE MOON excited to share my thoughts on this next series! ππ
I'm sure a lot of us remember the show H2O: Just Add Water and if you're like me... you not only remember it, but you try to watch it EVERY summer! π I've been watching the series since I was eight years old when it premiered for the FIRST time in the United States! π
Now, you might be wondering, isn't this post about a series called Blue Water High? Why, yes. Yes, it is. π However, the reason I brought up H2O: Just Add Water is because that's how I found out about Blue Water High and some of the actors/actresses that played on H2O even played on Blue Water High! π
I found out about the series Blue Water High years ago, but didn't actually start watching it until 2020! π Thank goodness I decided one random day in 2020 to look up this series and play the first episode because it brings me ALL the vibes H2O: Just Add Water brings and even gives off more early 2000s vibes than H2O, at least the first season gives off more of those vibes! π
Which brings me to this...
If you haven't seen Blue Water High before, which I highly recommend you watch it this summer, then I have to mention that this series is set up a bit differently than others in the fact that with each season the main cast changes! π The premise of the show is that a surfing academy named Solar Blue hosts a surfing competition each year where seven surfers (six in seasons two & three) are chosen to spend the next school year living under the same roof, going to the same school, and training hard to try and be one of the two finalists (one girl and one boy) in the last competition to win a spot on the Pro-Circuit! ππ
Each season's cast changes because each season there are new surfers that get chosen to attend the academy! π In my opinion, season one is the BEST season... the VERY best! π
Season one's cast includes these characters...
If you're wondering who the adults are and what they do...
Simmo - Lead Trainer
Deb - Sent from the Solar Blue owners to be a new trainer making her and Simmo equal training partners for the year.
Jilly - Leader of the household. Takes care of the house and makes the schedule for the surfers when it comes to chores and any house work.
One other character that isn't mentioned, but is one of the main secondary characters is Bec's brother, Joe...
Season one's characters = *chef's kiss* π The characters have natural chemistry and the bond they form is so special to watch! π
Each episode of the season has one character who narrates the episode! When you first hear who is narrating the episode, usually that is going to be the character who has the main plotline. Then, there is the secondary plotline that goes on as normal, but usually the secondary plotline runs into the primary plotline! π Make sense? Hopefully! π Oh, and there are a few episodes that don't have narrators, but most do! π
Now, I want to see how much I know the season and guess who has the most narrations and who has the least! π
Honestly, I don't remember Anna narrating a ton of episodes! I really only remember her narrating one of them. π So, my guess for the character who narrated the least amount of episodes is Anna. π₯ Now, Heath's character is the "filmmaker" of the show and his camera is usually never far away from where he is! π So, he's my guess for who has the MOST narrations! π₯
Let's see if my guesses are right...
*It turns out there aren't as many fully narrated episodes as I thought... Wow! And I'm supposed to be one of the series biggest fans... oopsies! π¬ There are eight episodes that don't have any narrators, but a lot of the episodes do have moments when you hear what the characters are thinking, but not speaking aloud. Those don't count as narrated episodes, though! π However, I was right that the majority of the episodes do have narrators, even if it's not as much throughout the episodes as I thought! There are a total of eighteen narrated episodes! π₯
So, let's see who had the most and least narrations out of the eighteen! π
Heath - Six episodes
Fly - Two episodes
Edge - One episode
Bec - Four episodes
Perri - Two episodes
Anna - One episode
Matt - Two episodes
I was correct! Well, sort of. π I was right that Heath had the most narrations and that Anna had the least... but, Edge tied with Anna, so I was half right! π
I know this is A LOT of information about this series, but this post isn't just about sharing my top ten episodes from season one! π I want you to get an inside look on the series and characters and how the plotlines of the series is set up! π
Honestly, ALL of season one is just AMAZING! π Truly, there isn't one episode that doesn't belong in the season! They all show how much the characters grow not only within themselves, but as a team and family of friends! π
So, the ten episodes I've chosen are indeed some of my favorites... but, really they ALL are my favorites because they all complete a puzzle and show the journey the characters take to reach the last competition and last episode! π
These ten episodes I'm about to share with you were chosen...
A) because two of them do stand-out and are my top favorites!
B) The rest, besides my top two, are ones that I feel represent why season one is so great!
C) I chose ones with storylines that really showcase what this series/season one has to offer!
One of the main things I LOVE about this series is the music! π΅ I've tried to incorporate some scenes from the ten episodes I've chosen that showcase some of the background music moments, but it's hard to incorporate ALL of the amazing music scenes because there is a lot of talking during them that you wouldn't understand if you haven't watched the episodes before! π
So, this has been an awesome chat, but how about we actually get into these top ten episodes? π Let's make waves... π
Starting with the theme song!
πππππππ
(from most to most favorite because there is no least with this season!)
#10 - Winners and Losers (S1E2)
This is the second episode in the series and starts off right where the first episode ends! π Fly arrives at the house just in time to get a tour of the house... I mean house drama! Heath catches Fly up on all that she's missed in the past few hours, which includes her roommate running away due to Bec being bitter that Anna (Fly's roommate) took the spot that was supposed to be Bec's brother's spot! π
To prove to herself and everyone else in the house that she belongs there, she meets with Joe (Bec's brother) and arranges a surf-off. π Winner gets the seventh Solar Blue spot and loser walks away knowing the better surfer in the moment won! π
Let's take a look at Winners and Losers...
This one makes my top ten because the vibes are top-notch! π There are quite a bit of background music moments that add to the overall vibe and it's just amazing! π This is the first episode where the whole group bands together to work together towards a goal... goal for this episode = finding Anna! π This is also the episode where the group of seven feels complete because Anna gets to prove herself and everyone cheers her on and is happy with the results! π
#9 - Timing Is Everything (S1E10)
This episode has two plotlines going on! π Two employees of a model agency see Perri surfing and immediately think she has the looks of a model and approach her with an opportunity to model for a surfing magazine! π She has mixed feelings and has never thought about modeling before. However, when her parents cut off her allowance, Perri doesn't want the others to find out and takes up the modeling job to earn some extra cash! πΈ The people who approached her tell her that she's the "face of today" and that she was sure to get chosen for the magazine, but if she was to get chosen, she'd have to give up her contract with
Solar Blue. π
It turns out that the magazine company isn't looking for the "face of today", but wants the "face of tomorrow"... *modeling is a world I'm not the biggest fan of* π Perri was going to turn down the gig anyways and feels her decision was the right one once she hears about what the company wants! π She learns that timing is everything and right now is her time to work hard and make the pro-circuit! π
The second plotline is the main reason this episode makes my top ten! π Edge is the character in the show who is... well, always on edge... LOL! π He's a serious character who also has a soft side! π In this episode, Edge gets a job as a waiter and everyone thinks he's not capable of being a good one... it's all in more of a joking manner and not a jab at Edge! π
To see what I mean, let's take a look at Timing Is Everything...
Those scenes show the banter all the characters have with each other, especially the boys! π I love how at the end Edge proves he is indeed a great waiter and I love how Edge got Perri a job, as well! π
This episode shows how the model world only really cares about what will sell and who has the look that will get the most sells... bleh! π I love how Perri realizes surfing is her true passion and how she gets a more normal job to earn money! π Again, Edge's storyline is my favorite in this episode and it shows his comedic side! π
#8 - Dream and Dramas (S1E12)
If you know me, you know that I
LOVE themed episodes... birthdays, school dances, slumber parties, vacations, etc. π This episode is Fly's birthday episode...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! πππ As you can see in the gif, Fly's birthday doesn't go as planned...
The group decides to throw a house party for Fly and Anna proves she can plan the whole thing on her own! π Now, one thing the gif doesn't show is that the party does start getting pumped-up... a little too pumped-up! π There are two problems when it comes to Fly's surprise party...
1) The party gets out of control...
2) Fly is missing from her own birthday party!
There is a reason Fly was missing from the party...
Let's take a look at Dream and Dramas...
Poor Fly couldn't stop overthinking this WHOLE episode... anyone else relate? β
Fun fact time... Fly and Heath are my favorite couple of the series! π It's mainly their friendship that is so cute to watch because they have such a strong friendship that it naturally has some romantic moments here and there! π I love how supportive they are of a each other, especially Heath! π You'll see in upcoming episodes/clips how sweet their friendship really is!
I remember my first time watching this episode! πΊ I used to wake up at 3:50 in the morning for work... π² and I used to cook my oatmeal and watch YouTube as I ate and I specifically remember watching this episode one morning and loving it so much that when I got to work at 5:45 in the morning, I spent those fifteen minutes before going into work finishing this episode! π What can I say, I love birthday episodes! π
#7 - A Life On The Line (S1E13)
In a different episode, the group had to pick a volunteer activity as a mandatory task for
Solar Blue and they chose to be apart of the Life Savers, which are basically the life guards of the beach! π In this episode, Perri is caught off guard when she is ending her shift and someone runs up to her and tells her that their friend is drowning! π The situation doesn't go well and Perri almost gets drowned herself by the very person she is trying to save!
Let's take a look at Perri's situation in A Life On The Line...
(Part One)
(Part Two)
Matt and Perri's friendship is also very sweet! π I love how Perri sticks up for herself at the end and realizes that just because she saved this guy doesn't mean she has to stick around and watch him continue to make irrational decisions that are harmful to himself and others! π
On the other hand, the rest of the group is given a task to paint surfboards that will be auctioned off with each member of the group being able to earn a percentage of the sales! π
Let's see what each member of the group decided to paint on their boards...
Which surfboard design do you like the best?!? π
My favorites are two, three, and four! π I didn't realize before, but I think Heath's design is a trailer with wings on waves, which makes sense because it's hinted at during the series that he lives/lived in a trailer, which is super cool that he put that into his design with wings attached! π I love Fly's because hello, it's a dog surfing... what's not to love?!? π Anna's is sweet because it shows how the ocean is her connection between her two worlds, which are Germany and Australia! π If I had to choose one, though, I'd choose... this is so tough... I'd choose... Heath's because the swirls remind me of the bottom of a pool for some reason and it gives off summer vibes! π
I chose this episode because I think we can ALL relate to the type of fear Perri was feeling after the rescue situation! π Personally, I know I've had situations in my life where after they happened I began to overthink and become afraid of the unknown and fear all of the bad things that can happen in life! π I love how Matt shows Perri that she could let go of that fear by learning how to handle situations in a different and better way! π And, of course, I love the surfboard design storyline! π
#6 - Perri Lies Low (S1E17)
Another Perri episode, but her character seems to have some of the deepest storylines that I think were great of the writers to include in the series! π This episode is about the group learning that Perri has diabetes, which is a serious topic that is handled very well in this episode! π
Before I discuss this episode any further...
Let's look at the clips, so that you can get a vibe of how this topic was handled in Perri Lies Low...
I love how the rest of the group wanted to show Perri that her diabetes didn't have to be considered a weakness, but something that made her stronger and braver to keep surfing! π If it wasn't for the rest of the group, especially Matt, Perri would have had to leave
Solar Blue because they thought she couldn't get the care she needed at the academy! But the group, especially Matt, showed that Perri could get the same care at
Solar Blue that she could get anywhere with the support of them and Jilly making sure she took her shots! π The group really supported her! It shows how they all truly cared for each other! π
The secondary storyline was of Matt's cousin coming to visit, which caused some irritation to spread throughout the house! π I felt bad for Matt's cousin throughout the episode because even though he was a little eccentric, he was still sweet! I'm glad Matt apologizes to him at the end of the episode and that everyone learns to get along with him and joke around with him! π
#5 - Joker's Wild (S1E15)
I
LOVE this episode! π The group takes a little road-trip with Simmo for the girls to compete in a girls only surf-comp! π The boys are in charge of all the cleaning, dinners, and getting the girls whatever they need for the weekend! π
This episode is one of my VERY favorites because Fly shows that she is a real competitor and Heath is so sweet with how he sticks by her side the whole episode! π Basically, Fly gets put into the same heat (that's what they call the different rounds of surfing) with Bec and "takes" one of Bec's waves! π Bec isn't the kindest to her for the rest of the weekend! π’ But, she supports Fly in the end when it really matters! π
On top of all the waves drama, Edge gets pranked by Matt and seeks revenge, but it doesn't go as planned! π¬ Thinking it's Matt's surfboard, Edge smears soap all over the board not knowing it's actually Perri's! π² Perri slips off her board and doesn't score well in her heat, causing her to not make it to the final heat of the competition! π¬ Let's just say, she wasn't too happy with Edge! π
There was A LOT of drama in this episode, but the Fly and Heath moments were adorable! π I loved the camping setting, as well! Another themed episode, this one being a camping one! Hmm... maybe I'll rank camping episodes one day! ππ
Let's take a look at this amazing episode, Joker's Wild...
#4 - The Band Plays On (S1E24)
The group forms a band... enough said! π€π
Okay... next episode...
Just kidding! π This is not only another episode where there is chaos in the group, but it's another sweet episode where Heath sticks up for Fly! π
Solar Blue is hosting the Board Riders Contest and it's up to Simmo and the rest of the gang to prove that they can host the competition just as good as their competitor, Bec's dad's company, Barraban! π One of the things they need to organize is the music for the party that is held at the end of the contest! πΈπ₯π€ So, they form a band! π
There is no drama. No hitches in the plan. Nothing goes wrong at all.
I'm full of jokes for this episode, aren't I?!? Lol. π
Of course, there are roadblocks that stand in the way of the event being successful and the rest of the band, except for Heath (gotta love heath) thinks that one of those roadblocks is that Fly can't sing! π¬π€
Let's watch the clips to see how the drama unfolds and if The Band Plays On...
Heath and Fly are the best! π So, you're probably wondering, what now? Heath rejoined the band... does that mean the performance is back on?!? π€
Watch this next clip to find out... oh, and warning: the ending gets chaotic... you were warned! π
They had no right to go that hard with those "La da dee das"! ππ
Overall, this episode is super entertaining and has a good lesson that sometimes you just don't have control over everything... okay, usually ALL the time we don't have control over everything... and it's important to just go with the flow and live life more carefree! ππ
#3 - Right Dance, Wrong Partner (S1E19)
This episode is full of drama, but also has one of my
FAVORITE montages
EVER! π
I've already talked about this episode when I ranked my top ten school dance episodes (
here) and guess what? This episode ranked number one on that list! π It's so
AMAZING!
Yes, Edge can be annoying in this episode because of his obsession over Heath's jet-ski he's selling, but at least he's passionate about something... LOL! π
All the couples get mixed up for this episode! π Bec asks Heath to the dance when Heath thought he was going with Fly, but Fly told Bec it was okay to ask Heath! Edge gets jealous and asks Fly, which causes Fly to get mixed into the drama with the jet-ski! π¬ Matt goes with Perri to the formal and Joe goes with Anna, which is her first ever formal, but he stands her up!!! π Don't worry, she pours a drink on him! ππ
I've put my two FAVORITE moments from this episode into the next video! π
So, let's see the BEST moments from Right Dance, Wrong Partner...
Deb's advice to Perri is spot on and advice I think every girl in middle/high school should hear! π And the montage scene NEVER gets old! π Which formal dress is your favorite of the girls? π
My absolute favorite is Fly's dress! π If you've seen some of my prom posts that I did recently, then you know that blue formal dresses are my top picks and Fly's is for sure one I'd wear! π What about you? All of these dresses are stunning! Do you have a favorite? π
School dance episodes are just so much fun to watch! π The boys look dashing, the girls' dresses are beautiful, and the song during the montage... perfection! βͺ
#2 - The Contenders (S1E1)
This is where it all began! The
VERY first episode of the entire series! ππ
There is always something special about the first episode of a series, especially this series! π The seven surfers chosen are meeting for the first time and this is when the journey begins! Seven strangers become seven best friends! π My heart!
Something special and fun about this series is how during the first episode of each season the names of each surfer are shown and those are the surfers you get to see grow throughout each episode! During the very last episode of each season, the names appear again and this time with some montage clips of their moments during the season! π It's very sentimental and something super special! Also, the same song plays in the first and last episodes, making it even more emotional! π’π
I've put together a special montage of those first and last episode moments, but I'm saving that for the next episode discussion! π
A big part of this episode was figuring out who was going to have the last girl's spot! π It was between Fly and Stacy, a surfer that wanted to make sure Fly didn't have a chance! But, thanks to Heath, Fly gets another chance to compete! π
I've put together some clips to show how right from the start, Heath was a great friend to Fly and if it wasn't for him, she wouldn't have even had another shot at making it into Solar Blue! π
Let's see some clips of The Contenders...
Heath was right... Blue Water High season one was beautiful, but it wasn't long enough! π I could watch a thousand episodes with season one's cast! π
#1 - And The Winner Is... (S1E26)
You know that special montage I was talking about a few moments ago...
Well, here it is! π
I mean, where do I even begin with this episode?!? π
In episode one you meet a group of seven strangers who come together for one reason and that's to win a spot on the pro-circuit! But, along the way, these seven strangers build friendships and relationships and spend a whole year together making memories! π
This is the very last episode where we see these characters all together in the same room, at the same beach, and in the same place at the same time! π
The one good thing is that all of the main characters from season one make appearances in the second season, except for Anna and Deb, sadly! π Fly is actually Simmo's training partner in season two and Bec takes Simmo's place in season three! So, we still get to see their characters for a while, thankfully! π But, the rest of this amazing group of characters say goodbye to being main characters in this episode, but to me they will ALWAYS be THE cast of Blue Water High... the BEST group of surfers to attend Solar Blue! π
This episode had so many awesome and emotional moments and I couldn't share them all, but I did choose a select few that are super special! π
So, let's give it up for Perri, Matt, Edge, Bec, Anna, Fly, and Heath...
So emotional! π’π
But, not as emotional as this...
The fact that they froze the scene right before they all stepped out the door... tissue please! π€§π’
This is one of the BEST, if not the BEST, finales of any show ever! π
πππππππ
When I say I enjoyed writing this post, I really mean it! π I truly haven't enjoyed doing a post this much in a while!
This whole post, I got to vibe to my Blue Water High playlist and edit all of these amazing clips to share with you a series that gives me ALL the feels! π
I recently just rewatched this season for the third time and again, it was one of the best weeks ever because this series puts me into the most chill vibe and reminds me to enjoy the present moment, especially now that summertime is here! ππ
This show is very special and I hope you've been able to see that with the clips I've just shared with you! It's okay if it's not your thing, but hey, maybe it is and you just have to watch episode one to let the magic begin! π
I've had the best time sharing my top ten episodes from season one with you and I hope you enjoyed it too! π
Until next time...
Let's countdown the end of this post together...
1... 2... 3...
Don't forget to celebrate each day because each day is a memory in the making. π
