๐ My Top Ten Songs From Disney Princess Films ๐
Let's celebrate this week by taking a look at TEN magical songs that Disney princesses and princes have sung! ๐๐
Get your microphones ready because I predict you'll be singing along to these theatric songs as soon as you press play! ๐ค
While your testing your mics, though, I have to explain a bit about what went on behind-the-scenes of picking only TEN songs from ALL the Disney princess films! ๐ Talk about a difficult task! ๐
My background with watching Disney princess films as a kid is I watched whatever we owned on VHS tapes/DVDs or watched whatever was on TV when I turned on Disney Channel! ๐บ My oldest sister Ariel had The Little Mermaid on tape! I mean, how could she not? Her name is Ariel! ๐ So, of course, that was her favorite growing-up! ๐
My other older sister, Alyssa, had Cinderella on tape and LOVED it! It was her favorite as a kid and still is! ๐ She actually ranked EVERY Disney princess film here and I guess I just spoiled what her number-one choice was... oopsies.... still go check it out, though, because I could be lying... no... I'm not lying... but... still go check it out! ๐๐
The VHS tape that was all mine as a kid was The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea! ๐ Of course, I got the sequel of my oldest sister's favorite movie since I was the youngest...๐... but, I LOVED that movie and played it over and over and over again! ๐ต We also owned Beauty and The Beast and would watch that constantly, as well! ๐งก
I had seen some other Disney princess films as a kid, but not as often to have really remembered them! ๐ We basically had the ones I mentioned above on repeat, until Tangled was released and we added that to our re-watch favorites list, as well! ๐
Last year, I watched Pocahontas for what felt like the first time for me, but I think I might've seen it at some point as a kid! ๐
Getting to the point to why I'm giving you all of this background information on my childhood TV programming... ๐
I was going to only include songs from Disney princess films I had seen! ๐บ I had the list finalized, then decided to scratch that WHOLE list because I wondered what it would be like if I listened to EVERY princess song that existed and choose ten from those! Would my original list stay the same due to nostalgia... or would my list turn-out completely different with newer songs I had never heard before?!? ๐ค๐
Well, my list is now complete and I must say, I'm shocked with how it turned out! ๐ฒ๐
Now, this is a songs ranking, but the scenes do have a huge impact on the connection you have with the songs! ๐ So, it's sort of a mix of both! The scenes did have a hand in how I chose these songs, but it's the songs themselves that I paid the most attention to! ๐ต
So, are your microphones checked and ready to go?!? ๐ค FANTASTIC! Let's do this thing! ๐

(from least to most favorite)
#10 - Mother Knows Best (Tangled)
This is the only Disney villain song you will see in this post! ๐ I'm not a fan of any of the Disney villains because *cough* their villains! ๐ฌ So, why did I put this song on this list? Well, it makes me laugh... like out loud! ๐ So, ummm.. not to get personal or anything... but this song is the definition of my own mother *cough* not going to go there... but, yeah, take with that what you will! ๐ณ This song shows just how insane some people can really be and how people like Rapunzel are drowned in all of the confusion those people's personalities leave them with! ๐ This song is the perfect representation of a toxic person, especially a "parent". ๐
The way Mother Gothel contradicts herself in the song is crazy! Once Mother Gothel starts to lose her control over Rapunzel, her whole demeaner towards her changes and the faรงade breaks to show who Mother Gothel really is! ๐ The insults followed by "but I love you," are literally lines that are too realistic! This song can begin deep conversations about non-healthy relationships and toxic people, but it's also refreshing to see a song that shows how absurd these types of people can be to where you laugh because of how ridiculous they are! ๐
The theatric vibe of this song is really well done! The vocal are delivered perfectly with each line! ๐ Crazy song about a crazy character with a crazy good production of the whole thing! ๐ต Let's take a listen, shall we? ๐
(Movie Scene and Reprise)
As a kid, I remember watching Mulan A LOT when it would come on TV! ๐ I didn't quite remember this song, though! I know... crazy, right?!? How could I not remember this incredible song? ๐ I love the meaning behind this song and how it's about Mulan wishing she could show the warrior within her that doesn't want to be made-up into a doll that everyone adores! ๐ The vocals are amazing in this song and are powerful in a softer kind of way! ๐ This song was originally a bit higher on this list, but the scene in the movie is quite short! However, I did find a deleted scene that was the sketch of what the full song was going to look like with a longer scene! ๐ฅ I added my own editing to the full version of the song to show an animated full version versus the sketched one! ๐ So, let's check out the different versions of this powerful song! ๐

#8 - If I Never Knew You (Pocahontas)
This was a deleted song/scene that was cut from the original version of the movie! ๐ฒ Thankfully, it was added to the 10th anniversary DVD edition and therefore, is now apart of the movie in all it's glory! ๐ I talked about this song in my Valentine's Day post (here) when I had first discovered that this song existed! ๐ต I was shocked that it wasn't in the original version of the movie because it was the missing piece of John and Pocahontas's relationship! ๐ This is a beautiful duet that gives you a melancholy feeling for sure! ๐ I became obsessed with the Pocahontas soundtrack and let me just say, the instrumental version of this song is just as beautiful! ๐ The instrumental version actually plays when John and Pocahontas first meet by the waterfall and it shows just how powerful the song is even without the lyrics! ๐ It's definitely a bittersweet song, but I love how it's a song all about being thankful for knowing someone because they've changed your perspective on life and has filled it with more meaning! ๐ The instrumental parts of this song in the movie are some of my favorite scenes, especially the ending scene when this song combines with Colors of the Wind as Pocahontas is running! ๐ Let's watch this incredible duet... ๐โ
(Full Movie Version and Reprise)
This was one of those shocking moments when I changed this song from my number-one choice to number-seven! ๐ฒ For months, this song has been my favorite Disney princess song, or at least I thought it was! ๐ The visual production of Pocahontas is stunning! The whole movie is a masterpiece! ๐ฒ This scene is one of the most beautiful Disney animated scenes of all time! So, why is it not my number-one choice? Well, that's a great question that I'm not sure about myself! ๐ For me, certain songs are special to me during certain times of my life. A few months ago, this song would have been my definite number-one choice! ๐ The message about unity and nature is so inspirational and I love how Pocahontas is the one showing John Smith all of these lessons and not vice-versa! ๐ Visually, this song is one of my favorites! My favorite part being when they run through the woods, then leap and Pocahontas even does a cart-wheel! ๐ Right now, though, this song doesn't affect me as deeply as some of these other songs do at this time! So, that's why it's lower on this list! But, it's still one of my FAVORITES and always will be! ๐ The message will always age better with time, like it already has! ๐ So, what are we waiting for?!? Let's watch this masterpiece... ๐โ
#6 - The Next Right Thing (Frozen 2)
Frozen 2 is one of the Disney princess films I have never seen! However, for this post, I listened to every song from this movie and this one struck me with so much emotion! ๐ I mean, you know it's a great song when it ranks above Colors of the Wind! ๐ This song is full of painful emotions and that's why it almost didn't make it on this list! This song/scene holds so much grief and pain, but also so much hope! I found myself listening to this song on repeat and connected with it so much because I think we've all been where Anna is during this scene! Confused. Broken. Cold. Numb. Angry. Hopeful. This song is very emotional, but so so good! ๐ I'm glad I decided to listen to songs from movies I had never seen before because I found this gem! ๐ Get your tissues ready! It's going to be an emotional ride... ๐ขโ
This is another movie I haven't seen and don't plan on watching because of certain mythology in it, but I did listen to the songs and this one is so much fun to listen to! ๐ I LOVE the beat and vibe of the song! It just makes me feel happy when I listen to it! ๐ From what I've seen, the visuals in this movie are stunning! The movie is so colorful and bright! ๐ I love how the dad is singing this song to his daughter and how it seems the movie normalized his daughter taking over the role of chief and how he seemed proud of that and there wasn't a whole "I don't have a son" moment! Again, I haven't seen the movie, but the dad looks proud to have his daughter fill his shoes as chief! ๐ I LOVE the tribal dancing, especially the part where Moana dances with her grandma! So sweet! ๐ All in all, this song just gives off so many positive vibes and I love it! ๐ต๐
It was so hard deciding which would be placed higher between this one and the previous Moana song, but this one won that decision based on the reprise of the song, which is called "I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)." ๐ Again, the visuals of this movie are amazing! ๐ I would so live on that island! ๐ This song is sweet because Moana is trying to figure out why she keeps feeling called to the sea and wondering how far she'd go if she listened to that voice inside her that keeps guiding her to the ocean! ๐ The voice artist for Moana is an incredible singer! ๐ค Her voice fits perfectly with this song, especially in the reprise! Speaking of the reprise, it's very powerful and moving to watch! Since I haven't seen the movie, I'm amazed at how these songs already make me feel connected to a storyline I haven't fully seen before! ๐ That's how you know a song is great! Before we watch the scenes, I want to say that if I could choose a princess sidekick, I'd choose that pig! Younger me LOVED pigs! ๐ท๐
(Reprise Audio)
I never remembered this song, until the live-action version kept popping-up in my recommendations when it was first released! ๐ Of course, out of curiosity, I clicked the live-action video and became OBSESSED with this song! โ I LOVE stars! Night is my favorite time of the day and this song is so magical with them flying through the night sky on a magic carpet! It's perfect! ๐ At first, I wasn't used to the animated song! I was so used to the live-action version that when I heard the original version it didn't quite feel the same! But, now I've listened to the animated one so much that it feels the same as the live-action one! Just as magical! ๐ This song is exactly what I think of when I picture a Disney princess movie! When I first heard this song, I imagined myself on a flying carpet and felt so free! It's definitely a magical song! โ I know the lyrics by heart now to where I randomly start singing it whenever I feel the need! ๐ It's so sweet how Aladdin and Jasmine hold hands at the end of the song! So cute! ๐
I know my sister Ariel is shocked right now! ๐ She LOVES Tangled! So, naturally as her younger sister, I have to pick fun at anything she LOVES! Not in a mean way! I just like to joke about this song a lot with how it shouldn't have been a love song and how Eugene and Rapunzel didn't really know each other... blah, blah, blah... ๐ What my sister doesn't know, though, is that I LOVE this song too! So much! ๐ Yes, I think this song could have been really sweet if it was a duet between her and her parents! Imagine if Rapunzel would have been singing the same song her parents were when they lit up the lantern?!? Wouldn't that have been sweet? ๐ However, this song is AMAZING as a Eugene and Rapunzel duet, as well! ๐
